The three situations below are typical example files, anonymised and reconstructed from cases we frequently encounter. These are not real testimonials: no names, no quotations, no ratings. Purely illustrative and educational purpose, to understand how each type of blockage is handled.

Typical case 1 — Renewal filed too late and receipt

Situation. A residence permit is approaching expiry and the person realises too late that the renewal must be initiated. They fear an interruption of rights (work, travel, benefits) during the review period.

Difficulty. The renewal application is filed at the earliest 4 months and at the latest 2 months before expiry of the permit. Filing outside this window, particularly late, can complicate the continuity of residence and the issuing of a filing document.

What we did. We first established the actual timeline (expiry date, filing window) and drew up the list of documents expected for the relevant category. The file was assembled, each document checked, then filed as quickly as possible to obtain the digital filing certificate that accompanies the review process.

Typical case 2 — Blocked ANEF file (format or category)

Situation. The process is carried out online on the ANEF (Application Numérique des Étrangers en France). When attaching documents or validating, the portal rejects a document or the application seems "stuck" without a clear message.

Difficulty. Two causes come up often: a problem of file format or size (non-compliant document, scan too heavy or illegible) and above all the choice of a wrong application category, which loads a different path and set of expected documents from the actual situation.

What we did. We reviewed the process starting from the basis for residence to confirm the right category, submitted the documents in the expected format (legible and correctly sized files), then rebuilt a coherent file before resubmitting.

Typical case 3 — Change of status from student to employee

Situation. A student holding a "student" permit receives a job offer and wishes to switch to an "employee" permit. The student permit is sometimes nearing its end, which adds a time constraint.

Difficulty. A change of status is not simply a renewal: it involves a different basis, employment-related supporting documents (contract, employer) and, where applicable, taxes due when the residence permit is issued. A poorly chosen category or an incomplete file wastes precious time.

What we did. We framed the right path (change of status, not an identical renewal), listed the documents specific to the "employee" category, checked the consistency between the contract, the basis and the form, then supported the filing while taking into account the expiry of the student permit.
